Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Ogun State have arrested two suspects over alleged conspiracy and unlawful possession of a firearm during an intelligence-led operation in the Ifo area of the state.
The suspects, identified as 47-year-old Adeola Mathew and 48-year-old Rasheed Omoniyi, were arrested by operatives of the Ifo Division following a raid on a suspected criminal hideout along Ibogun Road, NITEL Area, Ifo.
According to a statement issued by the Command, the operation was carried out at about 6:30 a.m. on Friday, 9 May 2026, after credible intelligence indicated criminal activity at the location.
During the operation, officers apprehended Adeola Mathew at the scene, while a search of the premises led to the recovery of one locally made pistol, which was reportedly concealed within the hideout.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the recovered firearm may have been supplied to the suspect by Rasheed Omoniyi, who was later tracked and arrested by police operatives.
The firearm has since been recovered and secured as exhibit, while investigations are ongoing to determine its source and whether the suspects are linked to other criminal activities in the area.
The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their swift response and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling crime and ensuring public safety across the state.
Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police through designated emergency lines provided by the Command.
