Tinubu Appoints Retired Major General Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.

The appointment was announced in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.

According to the statement, the appointment reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination, enhancing intelligence-driven operations, and improving inter-agency collaboration in tackling emerging security threats nationwide.

Major General Fadewa, a highly decorated retired military officer, brings more than three decades of experience in military intelligence, counter-terrorism operations, national security strategy, and international security diplomacy.

He previously served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021.

During his tenure, he played a key role in establishing the Intelligence Fusion Centre, a multi-agency intelligence coordination platform designed to improve information sharing and national threat assessment among major security institutions, including the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.

Following his retirement from active military service, Fadewa served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, where he contributed to research and policy discussions on policing, national security reform, and civil-security cooperation.

He is also the author of the monograph “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” which explores strategies for improving collaboration between civil authorities and security agencies.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Fadewa’s appointment would strengthen the administration’s homeland security initiatives through improved intelligence integration, proactive risk management, and enhanced operational coordination.

The President also urged the retired general to deploy his expertise and experience in support of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and broader national security objectives.
