NDLEA Uncovers N5.8bn Cannabis Stash in Lekki Mansion, Nabs Trafficking Suspects Nationwide

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested three persons living with disabilities in connection with drug trafficking, while also uncovering a cannabis stockpile worth more than N5.8 billion in a Lekki mansion in Lagos, as part of an intensified nationwide crackdown on illicit drug operations.

A 60-year-old suspect, Romanus Nwabara, was arrested during an intelligence-led raid in Akpaka Forest, Onitsha, Anambra State, with 250 grammes of cannabis. In a separate Anambra operation in Ogbunike, operatives arrested 25-year-old Amos Kenneth with an assortment of controlled substances including Tramadol, Diazepam, Exol-5, and cannabis. A third suspect, Usman Salisu, was intercepted during a patrol in Bode Saadu, Kwara State, allegedly concealing 6.3 kilogrammes of cannabis in a school bag aboard a commercial vehicle.

The largest seizure occurred when operatives of the agency’s Special Operations Unit raided a property on African Lane in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, which was allegedly being used as a drug stash house. The operation yielded 4,000 parcels of a potent imported cannabis strain known as ‘Loud,’ weighing 2,326 kilogrammes and valued at over N5.815 billion. Two Mercedes-Benz buses and designer packaging materials were also confiscated from the premises.

Additional seizures included 129 kilogrammes of cannabis recovered from Emmanuel Osita Okeke in Nyanya-Karu, Nasarawa State, and 766 kilogrammes in 76 jumbo bags intercepted aboard a commercial bus on the Okene-Lokoja highway in Kogi State, leading to the arrest of three suspects.

In Lagos, a makeshift production facility for a dangerous psychoactive cocktail known as ‘skuchies’ was also uncovered in the Ijora Badia area. Two suspects were arrested, and operatives recovered 270 litres of the mixture along with Tramadol tablets. The agency said the substance is increasingly abused by young people.

Beyond enforcement, the agency extended its public awareness campaign to schools, communities, and religious centres across Nasarawa, Ekiti, Enugu, Abia, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Kano, and Oyo States. Agency Chairman Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa commended field operatives for sustaining the dual strategy of reducing drug supply while driving community sensitisation, and urged continued momentum across all commands.
