The Lagos State Government has announced the emergency closure of the outbound section of Eko Bridge for safety investigations and repair works.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the closure will take effect from Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
The affected section covers the route between Apongbon and Ijora Olopa outbound towards Lagos Island.
Motorists have been advised to make use of the Third Mainland Bridge as an alternative route to access their destinations during the period of the closure.
The state government clarified that the inward Lagos Island carriageway of the bridge would remain open to traffic.
To minimise traffic disruptions, the government said adequate traffic management and security personnel would be deployed along alternative routes to guide motorists and maintain smooth vehicular movement.
The government appealed to road users for patience and cooperation while the repair and safety assessment works are being carried out.
