FG Moves to Fast-Track ICSAN Amendment Bill, Says Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) of the Federal Government’s support in facilitating the passage of the institute’s amendment bill currently before the National Assembly.

The proposed legislation seeks to reposition the institute by changing its name to better align with evolving global governance standards and broadening its mandate beyond traditional secretarial responsibilities.

Shettima gave the assurance on Friday while receiving a delegation from ICSAN led by its 30th President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Uto Ukpanah, during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

According to the Vice President, the Federal Government would engage relevant stakeholders to ensure speedy consideration of the amendment bill, noting that the institute has continued to play a critical role in promoting professionalism, corporate governance, and administrative excellence in Nigeria.

He also congratulated the institute ahead of its 60th anniversary celebration, describing the milestone as a testament to decades of integrity, professionalism, and national service.

“You have earned it, and the nation is better for the work you have done. You are truly a consequential organization, and even the calibre of people who were part of your history did their best for the nation,” Shettima said.

The Vice President commended the institute’s contributions to strengthening governance structures in both the public and private sectors, adding that institutions like ICSAN remain vital to national development and institutional stability.

Earlier, Ukpanah briefed the Vice President on the institute’s activities and ongoing efforts to modernise its operations in line with global best practices in governance and administration.

She said the amendment bill would enhance the institute’s capacity to contribute more effectively to nation-building and professional development across sectors.
