The Progressives Governors Forum, comprising all 31 state governors elected on the All Progressives Congress platform, has formally backed a consensus primary process for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, with the forum’s chairman publicly committing all governors to actively marketing the administration’s achievements to secure the public mandate required for a second term.
PGF Chairman and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, speaking on behalf of the forum immediately after the submission of Tinubu’s nomination forms by Vice President Kashim Shettima, recalled that governors had unanimously endorsed the president at the APC Political Summit the previous year and described Thursday’s ceremony as a concrete implementation of that resolution.
“On behalf of the governors elected on the platform of our progressive congress, from the 31 APC-controlled states out of the 36 states in Nigeria, we believe it is going to be a consensus. We firmly commit ourselves to work assiduously to market the policies and successes recorded by this administration and ride on them to secure the public mandate and confidence required for Mr. President to be re-elected,” Uzodinma said.
House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas expressed unqualified confidence in the president’s re-election, arguing that three years of leadership that had transformed multiple sectors of the economy had built a record that virtually guaranteed electoral success. He said the president’s performance had effectively silenced early sceptics, many of whom were now among the most enthusiastic supporters of the APC’s direction.
