Palestinian Killed in Israeli Raid in Nablus Amid Ongoing West Bank Violence

A Palestinian man has been killed during an Israeli military raid in the city of Nablus in the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian health authorities, as tensions continue to escalate in the region.

The Ramallah-based Palestinian Ministry of Health identified the victim as 26-year-old Nayef Firas Ziad Samaro, stating that he was shot during an incursion by Israeli forces into the city on Sunday.

“He was killed and four others were injured by live ammunition during an incursion by Israeli forces in the city of Nablus,” the ministry said in a statement.

Officials at Rafidia Hospital confirmed that Samaro was brought in critical condition but later died despite efforts by medical personnel to save him.

Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli troops entered several neighbourhoods in the city centre, conducting searches in shops before briefly withdrawing and returning. Clashes reportedly erupted after some youths threw stones at military vehicles, prompting soldiers to respond with tear gas and live ammunition.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said at least 40 people were treated for tear gas inhalation following the confrontation.

In a statement, the Israeli military said its forces were engaged in a counter-terrorism operation in Nablus when they encountered what it described as “violent confrontation.”

“Several terrorists hurled rocks toward the soldiers, posing a threat,” the military said, adding that troops initially used riot control measures before opening fire to disperse the crowd. “Several hits were identified,” the statement added.

The incident comes amid sustained violence in the West Bank since the outbreak of the Gaza War in October 2023.

According to available data, at least 1,069 Palestinians, both civilians and militants have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers in the West Bank since the start of the conflict. On the Israeli side, at least 46 people, including civilians and security personnel, have been killed in attacks or military operations during the same period.

The situation remains volatile, with frequent raids and clashes continuing to fuel instability across the territory.
