The Royal Spanish Football Federation has handed Real Zaragoza goalkeeper Esteban Andrada a 13-match suspension following his violent conduct during a league clash against SD Huesca.
According to the federation’s disciplinary committee, Andrada received a 12-match ban for punching Huesca defender Jorge Pulido, in addition to a one-match suspension for the red card he was shown during the heated encounter last Sunday.
The incident occurred late in the second-tier derby when the 35-year-old goalkeeper shoved Pulido to the ground, earning a second yellow card. Moments later, Andrada reacted angrily, running back to strike the defender in the face, sparking a mass confrontation between players.
The federation also imposed financial penalties on both the player and the club, with the lengthy suspension effectively ruling Andrada out for the remainder of the season, a significant setback for Zaragoza as they battle to avoid relegation.
Speaking after the match, Andrada apologised for his actions, admitting regret over the incident. “I’m very sorry for what happened. It’s not a good image for the club, the fans, or for a professional like myself,” he said.
The fallout from the altercation extended to other players, with Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jimenez receiving a four-match ban, while Zaragoza’s Dani Tasende was suspended for two matches.
Huesca went on to secure a 1–0 victory in the ill-tempered encounter. In a statement following the match, Zaragoza condemned the scenes, describing them as “unbecoming of the sport” and stressing that such behaviour should not be repeated.
