Dafinone Draws Massive Crowd in Ughelli as He Launches Bid for Second Senate Term

Delta Central APC Declares Support for Tinubu and Oborevwori Ahead of 2027

A large scale political gathering in Ughelli has signaled the start of early momentum within the All Progressives Congress in Delta Central, as Senator Ede Dafinone formally declared his intention to seek re-election in 2027.

The declaration event, held at Oharisi Primary School, attracted a significant turnout of party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters, with crowds filling the venue and surrounding areas in a show of strong grassroots backing.

Addressing supporters, Dafinone expressed appreciation for the widespread support, framing his leadership approach around service, integrity, and accountability. He credited these principles to the influence of his late father, a former senator, and emphasized his commitment to delivering measurable progress for the district.

He outlined key achievements during his current tenure, including empowerment initiatives, support for small businesses, installation of electricity transformers, development of information technology centres in schools, and medical outreach programmes that have reached thousands of residents.

The senator also highlighted his advocacy for major infrastructure and economic projects, including the proposed Sapele Seaport and improvements to road networks, which he said are essential to unlocking long term growth in Delta Central.

Positioning his campaign within a broader political alignment, Dafinone publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for re-election, describing their policies as critical to economic recovery and national development.

“This is not about personal ambition,” he told the crowd. “It is about building a stronger future for our people through job creation, youth empowerment, improved education, and sustainable economic growth.”

Party leadership in the district welcomed the early declaration, with the Delta Central APC chairman emphasizing the importance of transparency and grassroots engagement ahead of party primaries. He noted that the selection of candidates would follow established procedures, while urging members to intensify mobilization efforts across communities.

Prominent stakeholders and party figures present at the event voiced unified support for the senator’s bid, alongside endorsements for both the president and the state governor ahead of the next election cycle.

The gathering drew a wide array of political leaders, including senior lawmakers, former office holders, and local government officials, underscoring the strategic importance of Delta Central in upcoming electoral contests.

The declaration marks an early phase of political positioning within the region, with party leaders expressing confidence in consolidating support and advancing their agenda at both state and national levels.
