MTN Nigeria has announced plans to compensate subscribers affected by recent service disruptions, in compliance with a directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
In a statement, the telecom operator said the compensation initiative reflects its commitment to customer satisfaction and aligns with its “customer-first” approach. The company also acknowledged the inconvenience caused by network outages in parts of the country.
According to MTN, subscribers in affected areas will receive compensation covering the months of November, December, and January, in line with regulatory guidelines.
“MTN Nigeria exists to connect Nigerians to the digital world, and every subscriber deserves a reliable, high-quality network experience,” the company stated.
Beyond the compensation plan, MTN disclosed that it is scaling up investments to strengthen its network infrastructure and prevent future disruptions. The company said it is undertaking an aggressive capital expenditure rollout aimed at boosting network capacity and improving service quality nationwide.
Key measures include upgrading infrastructure with next-generation equipment, enhancing network resilience against environmental and third-party disruptions, and expanding collaboration with tower infrastructure providers to meet global service standards.
The telecom firm also noted that some service challenges stem from factors beyond its direct control, including infrastructure limitations and external interference. However, it reiterated its commitment to working with regulators, infrastructure partners, and security agencies to address these issues.
“We will continue to invest heavily for the long term to sustainably power Nigeria’s digital economy,” the statement added.
The move comes amid heightened regulatory oversight in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector, as authorities push for improved service delivery and stronger consumer protection.
