Defence Chief Orders Northwest Troops to Intensify Operations Against Terrorists

Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede has issued a direct operational directive to troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, ordering them to intensify their campaign against terrorist and bandit networks across the Northwest and sustain pressure on criminal elements until lasting peace was restored to the region.

Oluyede delivered the directive during an operational visit to the headquarters of the Theatre Command Joint Task Force Northwest in Gusau, Zamfara State, where he also assessed operational readiness, engaged with troops on the ground, and received briefings on the ongoing campaign against banditry and terrorism.

Director of Defence Information Major-General Samaila Uba confirmed that the visit was designed to both evaluate current operational capacity and boost the morale of personnel engaged in one of the country’s most demanding security theatres.

Addressing troops, Oluyede acknowledged their resilience and sacrifices and urged them to maintain professional discipline while pressing forward with unrelenting force against criminal networks.

“The safety of our citizens rests on our shoulders. You must remain resolute and go after these criminals until they are eliminated. We must make Nigeria safe at all costs,” he said.

The CDS assured personnel of continued government support in welfare, training, and the provision of operational equipment necessary to sustain and increase their effectiveness. He also highlighted the critical role of air support in ongoing Northwest operations and indicated that efforts were underway to strengthen operational capabilities through additional platforms and improved coordination across theatres.

Oluyede paid a courtesy call on Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, expressing appreciation for the state government’s sustained support to Operation Fansan Yamma and calling on residents across affected communities to sustain their cooperation with security forces through timely and credible intelligence sharing.
